Aldi recruits for 1,000 new store roles before 2026

Aldi is planning to create 1,000 new store positions by the end of 2026 as part of its UK expansion strategy.

The supermarket chain, which currently operates over 1,050 stores and employs more than 45,000 people across the UK, is recruiting for various shop floor roles including shop assistants, cleaners and apprentices. The company is also seeking candidates for management positions.

This recruitment drive supports Aldi's ongoing expansion, with new stores planned for locations including Fulham Broadway in London and Caterham in Surrey.

Salaries remain competitive within the retail sector, with shop assistants receiving a starting hourly rate of £12.75 nationwide. Aldi remains the only UK supermarket to provide paid breaks, a benefit worth approximately £1,370 annually for the average store employee.

Kelly Stokes, recruitment director at Aldi UK, commented: "As we grow into new communities, we're delighted to welcome more team members to the Aldi family. We're proud to offer industry-leading pay and benefits alongside excellent career progression opportunities."

Interested applicants can find vacancies on Aldi's careers website.

In related news, the retailer recently confirmed it has abandoned plans to introduce new staff uniforms next year. This decision forms part of the company's strategy to focus resources on price reductions and store improvements.

Aldi had trialled redesigned uniforms featuring breathable fabrics and darker green polo shirts across 12 stores over six weeks, involving more than 2,600 staff members. The proposed changes would have marked the first major uniform update in over 12 years, with implementation originally scheduled for 2026.
