Shopify Black Friday sales reach more than $3bn

Shopify has announced that this year’s global Black Friday sales reached record highs at over $3 billion.

The commerce platform said the figures were a 17 per cent increase from 2021, with merchants on Shopify seeing sales peak at $3.5 million per minute. Shopify also recorded a 27 per cent growth in point of sale (POS) sales made by Shopify merchants globally compared to last year’s Black Friday.

"Black Friday Cyber Monday has grown into a full-on shopping season,” said Shopify president Harley Finkelstein. “The weekend that started it all is still one of the biggest commerce events of the year, and our merchants have broken Black Friday sales records again.”

Shopify found that the top countries for sales were the US, UK, and Canada.

Top products categories were apparel and accessories, health and beauty, and home and garden. Shopify found the average cart price for shoppers was between $102 to $106.

The findings follow news of Shopify expanding its global programme to allow local European Enterprise Resource planning (ERP) partners to join and build direct integrations to the e-commerce platform.
