Academy Sports + Outdoors appoints new CIO

US retailer Academy Sports + Outdoors has appointed Sumit Anand as executive vice president and chief information officer (CIO).

Prior to joining the retailer, Anand worked for six years at the US retailer At Home in various executive roles, including chief information officer and CIO.

He also previously worked for three years as senior vice president at the jewellery group Signet Jewelers. His duties included overseeing the company's transformation and technology delivery.

From 2007 to 2015, he worked at Accenture, where he served as executive retail practice, overseeing the company's retail strategy, including omnichannel, enterprise technology and digital transformation.

In his new role, Anand is tasked with overseeing all enterprise technology operations including cybersecurity, IT infrastructure and operations, and IT shared services, supporting the company's corporate, distribution centre, and retail initiatives.

In his new role, Anand reports directly to chief executive Steve Lawrence.

Founded in 1938 the US full-line sporting goods and outdoor recreation retailer has grown to more than 300 stores across 21 states.

Its product assortment focuses on key categories of outdoor, apparel, sports and recreation and footwear.
