Aldi reports record festive sales

Discount supermarket Aldi has revealed record sales for the holiday period and has pledged to continue to keep prices low for UK shoppers/

The company reported sales of more than £1.5 billion for the first time in the run up to Christmas, with sales increasing 8 per cent in the four weeks to 24 December compared with the same period of 2022.

The company said that Friday 22 December represented its biggest ever trading day in the UK as 2.5 million customers shopped in stores.

In terms of seasonally specific products, Aldi said that sales of its Specially Selected Crackling Gammon Joint were up by 25 per cent and that customers purchased 42 million pigs-in-blankets in the lead-up to Christmas.

Giles Hurley, chief exec of Aldi UK and Ireland, said that the supermarket would continue to lower the cost of groceries for families with simple and clear pricing.

He said: “As the UK’s cheapest supermarket, we were able to help customers enjoy the Christmas they deserve and provide them with high quality products at the most affordable prices. I’m immensely proud of our amazing colleagues who, once again, went above and beyond to deliver a wonderful Christmas for our customers.

“As we look ahead to 2024, our promise to customers is that they will always make significant savings on every shop with Aldi because we have the lowest grocery prices in Britain.”
