Aldi to open new store each week in September

Aldi has announced it will open a new store every week throughout September, creating up to 120 new jobs across the four locations.

Following the opening of its new Balsall Common store near Solihull last week, Aldi said it will will open a further three stores this September in Telford in Shropshire, Rayleigh in Essex and Hoxton in East London, with up to 30 roles available at each location.

In June, Aldi announced it will open 16 new stores across the UK over the coming months as part of a £370 million investment programme in 2026, extending the discount retailer’s reach as it works towards its target of operating 1,500 stores nationwide.

The expansion will add locations in areas including Watford, Hoxton and Marble Arch in London, Hattersley and Wigan in Greater Manchester, and Balsall Common in the West Midlands. Aldi currently operates more than 1,080 stores across the UK.

Jonathan Neale, managing director of national real estate at Aldi UK, said: “We know there are still communities across the country that want access to an Aldi store, and we’re working hard to bring our unbeatable value to more of them.

“Opening a new store every week throughout September demonstrates the pace of our expansion, while creating new jobs and bringing high-quality, affordable food to even more shoppers.”

The news comes as rival discounter Lidl announced that it has opened its 13,000th store in Raunheim near Frankfurt. The company is active in 32 countries and has over 3,250 stores in Germany alone.
