Amazon rolls out new flexible payment options for UK customers

Amazon is introducing new instalment payment options for UK customers, giving shoppers greater flexibility to spread the cost of eligible purchases over periods ranging from three months to four years.

The e-commerce giant said the new financing options, launched in partnership with payments company Affirm, are being rolled out progressively to eligible customers over the coming weeks and will be available on millions of products priced at £50 or more.

Customers will be able to choose between an interest-free “Pay in 3” option, which splits the cost into three monthly payments, or longer-term financing plans of up to 48 months with a representative fixed APR of 22 per cent. The retailer said both options come with no late fees or hidden charges.

The move forms part of Amazon's strategy to offer customers more choice at checkout, with applications completed during the purchasing process and an instant eligibility decision provided before an order is confirmed.

Customers approved for financing will be able to manage repayments through a dedicated app or website, make additional payments or settle balances early without incurring repayment penalties. Payments can also be automated using a bank account or debit card.

The payment options will be available across most product categories, although exclusions include gift cards, grocery items, out-of-stock products and certain digital content such as Kindle books, music, videos, apps and game downloads.

Amazon said its existing customer protections will continue to apply regardless of the payment method used. Purchases sold directly by Amazon remain covered by the company's standard returns and refund policy, while orders from third-party sellers continue to be protected under the retailer's A-to-Z Guarantee.

The company added that purchases of more than £100 made using the new payment options will qualify for protection under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act.

Vassil Gedov, general manager of payment products at Amazon EU, said: “We want to give Amazon customers genuine choice and flexibility over how they pay. These financing options deliver a simple and convenient way for Amazon customers to manage spending with clear terms and no late fees, all integrated into the Amazon shopping experience our customers already know and trust.”
