Asda has hired Cal Corcoran as its new group chief information officer (CIO).

The retailer said that Corcoran, who is joining the company on 5 January, will lead the supermarket’s technology and data teams as it continues to "develop and optimise its systems" following the culmination of its businesses separation project from Walmart.

He most recently worked as VP - global head of banking at Microsoft.

Corcoran has also held senior technology roles at other global organisations including Barclays, Gatwick Airport, BP, and Castrol.

The new CIO brings over 25 years of IT transformation and delivery experience across multiple industries, including BigTech, financial services, civil aviation, oil & gas, telecoms and aerospace and defence.

“Our use of data and technology is a critical element of our business that enables us to show up for our customers in the ways they expect," said Allan Leighton, executive chairman, Asda. "I'm delighted that Cal is joining the senior leadership team as we double down on our formula for growth as we head into 2026, and I look forward to welcoming Cal to the business next week."

Chris Chalmers will also be returning to Asda in 2026 as vice president - customer data and loyalty.

Chalmers previously worked for the supermarket between 2012 to 2017 as marketing director.

He is rejoining the firm from JD Sports, where he has been working as global customer director since June 2024.

Chalmers will lead the strategic development and execution of the Asda Rewards customer loyalty programme, as well as digital and performance marketing for Asda.com and George.com.
