Asda has signed a new multi-year agreement with Uber Direct to increase the number of locations offering grocery delivery in as little has one hour.
The partnership expansion will boost the availability of Asda’s Express Delivery service, which is powered by Uber Direct’s courier network.
The retailer said that this also enables it to fulfil large basket orders nationwide, allowing customers to use the on-demand offering for their weekly grocery shop.
Asda first partnered with Uber Direct in 2021 and has since developed what it says is one of the largest same day deliver offerings in the UK market.
The service originally delivered from approximately 300 superstores across the UK, with this expanded to a further 10 new superstore locations this year.
Asda said it will now expand the service to more locations in 2026, significantly broadening its customer reach and further driving its mission “to deliver real value for ordinary working people.”
Since the launch of Asda’s Express Delivery option, the supermarket said the capability of its logistics dispatch operation has scaled to meet customer demand.
Asda added that it has seen “immense” success on the Uber Eats platform, having recently onboarded Asda Express, its convenience store offering. The company said its convenience stores outperformed the wider market in sales during the second quarter of 2025.
According to a study by Uber Direct, on-demand delivery in the UK currently accounts for almost 10 per cent of online grocery sales, with the figure projected to grow significantly before the end of the decade.
“Express Delivery has proven particularly popular with our customers, enabling them to have their everyday essentials delivered within hours of placing an order,” said Barney Burgess, VP of online at Asda. “Uber Direct’s strong performance and reliable service has been vital in helping us to grow the service to date.
“We are excited to continue growing our partnership with Uber Direct and to keep delivering an exceptional and convenient service to our customers.”
Last month, rival supermarket Morrisons introduced a new rapid delivery service, Morrisons Now, promising fresh food brought to customers’ doors in as little as one hour.
At the time, the supermarket said the service was live in 158 stores and would be extended to 420 stores nationwide by the end of the October, with orders placed via Morrisons.com or the Morrisons Groceries app.
