Co-op media arm completes rollout of 1,000 front-of-store screens

Co-op Media Network (CMN) has completed a landmark roll out of 1,000 front-of-store screens, taking the number of digital advertising touch points to over 15,500 across its store estate.

The digital screen network offers advertisers the opportunity to partner with CMN on in-store campaigns, enabling deeper engagement with customers visiting Co-op convenience stores.

The launch, in collaboration with installation partners Commercial IT Services and software partners Grassfish, saw digital screens introduced at store fronts across a wide range of locations across the UK, from city centres and residential areas to rural, Highland and island stores.

The new installations, together with kiosks, self-service screens and customer-facing screens at manned checkouts, will bring the total number of screens in Co-op's 2,300 stores to 15,871, which the company says is one of the largest digital advertising screen networks of any food retailer in the UK.

In addition, Co-op's digital screen network extends to UK music festival sites, through Co-op's pop-up shops at festivals, hospitals, petrol stations and railway stations.

The company said the diversity of its digital advertising offering aims to provide rich targeting opportunities that can be based on demographic, geographic and mission data.

In October 2024, CMN announced the installation of 300 digital screens at the front of its stores, a figure that has now increased by over 230 per cent, with the 1,000th screen recently installed in Newton Stewart, Scotland.

“Our continued investment in the digital screen network further strengthens the Co-op Media Network’s standing as the UK’s largest and most prominent media owner in the convenience sector,” said Kenyatte Nelson, Co-op's head of membership and customer experience.

CMN said further announcements for its in-store digital proposition are expected in early 2026.

Employing 54,000 people, Co-op has an annual turnover of over £11 billion. .
