Danish retailer Jysk boosts omnichannel strategy with API platform migration

Danish retailer Jysk has migrated to an open-source platform for full lifecycle API management as it seeks to improve its omnichannel Strategy.

Jysk is a home furnishing retailer headquartered in Denmark, with over 3,300 stores across more than 48 countries. The retailer, known for its Scandinavian design and affordable furniture, recently shared plans to open approximately 150 new stores across Europe.

Through its partnership with API management company WSO2, the retailer has centralised all its APIs on a single platform, establishing unified standards for API design, publication, versioning and lifecycle management.

Jysk said the new solution enables it to provide a consistent customer experience across stores, supply chain operations and e-commerce, as it continues to grow both its digital and physical presence.

It said that centralising API management has simplified integration processes, enabling faster integration of new stores and digital services; improving operations by enabling faster store launches; providing smoother e-commerce integrations; and delivering faster customer service response times.

Jysk said that now, on a typical weekday, the platform supports over two million API calls across 74 APIs with less than 1 ms latency, ensuring rapid transaction volume handling during times of peak traffic such as Black Friday.

It added that the platform provides greater visibility into API usage, allowing developers to understand who is using their APIs and how they are performing, improving scalability, stability, and governance of its rapidly growing retail business.

In a statement, the retailer shared the challenges it faced prior to implementation, including decentralised API management, with different teams managing APIs independently, leading to inconsistent standards.

The retailer said that, because of this, it was also difficult to monitor API usage, performance and resources across departments.

“Looking ahead, Jysk plans to migrate its e-commerce platform into the API manager and transition from VMs to Kubernetes, enhancing scalability and operational excellence,” Jysk said.
