EG Group finalises sale of UK forecourt business to Zuber Issa

EG Group has completed the sale of its UK forecourt business and certain foodservice locations to Zuber Issa, co-founder of the business.

The move forms part of Issa's plans to grow a new UK petrol forecourt and convenience retail business called 'EG on the Move'.

EG on the Move was launched last year by the group to run the petrol forecourts it did not sell to Asda.

Plans to divest the forecourt business were first announced in June.

Issa bought the remaining locations for £228 million.

EG Group said that the transaction proceeds would be used to pay off debt.

Asda, owned by Zuber Issa and his brother Mohsin, acquired EG Group for around £2.3 billion in 2023.

The supermarket took over its 350 petrol stations and more than 1,000 food-to-go locations across the UK and Ireland.

EG Group has a global network spanning nine international markets across the UK, continental Europe, the US, and Australia, with 5500 sites and 38,000 employees.
