eBay UK to trial livestream shopping

eBay has said that it will pilot its interactive livestream shopping service in the UK over the next few weeks.

eBay Live allows eBay users to attend live auctions, shop exclusive deals and buy in real time.

The online marketplace says the service has been successful in the US since launching in 2022 with hundreds of live events hosted every week.

eBay also this week announced that individual sellers can now sell pre-owned fashion on its UK platform for free.

The online marketplace previously charged 12.8 per cent of the total amount of the sale + 30p per order for clothes listings.

eBay said that it is also "transforming" its platform to make the process of buying and selling second-hand clothing easier, including introducing AI-generated item descriptions for all UK sellers. The company added that customer feeds and fashion visual searches will help improve the experience for shoppers.

“Free fashion selling has come at the right time for a nation sitting on billions of pounds worth of unwanted clothes," said Kirsty Keoghan, general manager of global fashion for eBay. "We know selling clothes can sometimes feel like a chore, so free selling and new updates like new AI-powered listings, will help more of us to sell clothes easily – putting more cash in pockets."

Keoghan went on to say that the move would mean less clothes end up in landfill.

Retail should not be a high-risk occupation. As a company, we are focused on listening to our colleagues and customers to help them with the issues they are facing in-store and so far, the feedback on our body cameras has been excellent.
