Fortnum & Mason names new chief executive

Fortnum & Mason has appointed Tom Athron as its new chief executive.

He will join the luxury retailer at the start of December, replacing Ewan Venters, who announced his departure back in September and will leave in January after a month of handover.

Athron joins from Matchesfashion, where he was chief operating officer since May 2018, responsible for scaling the British fashion retailer globally, leading e-commerce, logistics and customer experience.

He previously spent 12 years at the John Lewis Partnership in a variety of roles, including group development director, trading director and chief financial officer of Waitrose.

Athron also founded JLP Ventures, the innovation unit set up by John Lewis to drive new growth opportunities and partnerships.

Fortnum & Mason chair Kate Hobhouse called him “a great fit with the multichannel business that Fortnum’s has become”.

Poundland significantly reduces antisocial behaviour, aggression and shoplifting with Motorola Solutions VT100 body cameras
Retail should not be a high-risk occupation. As a company, we are focused on listening to our colleagues and customers to help them with the issues they are facing in-store and so far, the feedback on our body cameras has been excellent. They act as a great visual deterrent, help to de-escalate situations and overall, this project has significantly aided our goal to make the retail environment safer.
