Holland & Barrett has appointed Anthony Houghton as its new group chief executive officer, effective from October 2025 at the start of the company's new financial year.
Houghton, who has been with the health and wellness retailer since September 2018, will transition from his current role as chief executive officer for UK & Ireland.
During his seven-year tenure, he has previously served as group retail and property director and chief operating officer.
The appointment forms part of the company's succession planning strategy as it continues its transformation programme.
Alex Gourlay will remain as chairman of Holland & Barrett, whilst Houghton joins the company's board.
"I am delighted to have been offered the chance to take on the role of group chief executive officer at Holland & Barrett," Houghton said. "It is with immense pride that I get the opportunity to lead a business with such a clear purpose: to support the health and wellness of our customers whilst fostering an environment where our colleagues and communities can flourish."
Houghton praised the dedication of the company's workforce, stating: "What I've seen achieved by this business over the past seven years is a real testament to the incredible dedication and talent of our people."
He expressed confidence in the company's future prospects, adding: "Their commitment every day, combined with the undoubted significant potential of the team, gives me great confidence that the investments we've made and the plans we've put in place will not only keep Holland & Barrett competitive in today's market, but position us to lead for years to come."
The retailer described the appointment as representing its focus on stability and strong succession planning as it enters its next growth phase.
