Ikea US launches As-is online used goods service

Ikea US has announced the launch of As-is online, a new service that enables select customers to reserve used products online and buy them later in store.

The new service, available to Ikea Family members in the US, will allow users to shop products in their local stores from home.

Ikea says the move means that its customers can help lower their environmental impact by giving "discontinued and gently used items a second chance”.

“This Earth Month marks an exciting time for IKEA US as we continue to make sustainable attainable for the many people,” said Javier Quiñones, chief executive and chief sustainability officer, Ikea US. “As-is online joins our other services like Buy Back & Resell and the spare parts programme that help our customers live a more sustainable life at home with a variety of ways to prolong the life of their furniture.”

Ikea said it was celebrating Earth Day across the month of April by expanding its Buy Back & Resell service to more stores throughout the country, including Ikea Bloomington, Jacksonville, Las Vegas, New Haven, Orlando, Renton, Sunrise and Tampa.

Meanwhile the company is hosting in-store sustainability events and workshops this month, whilst also giving the opportunity for Ikea Family members to participate in a raffle for a “Sustainable Home-kit” prize package valued at over $55.

It said it will also offer customer deals and discounts on products that are sustainably sourced or made from natural materials, energy-efficient or water savings.
