John Lewis opens second-hand pop-up shop

John Lewis has launched a pop-up shop focusing on luxury ‘pre-loved’ goods.

The store, open until the end of January 2024, has been launched in partnership with reseller Sign of The Times, a company with over 45 years of experience in the second-hand market.

The pop-up is located in Peter Jones in London’s Sloane Square and will feature products from brands including Chanel, Moncler and Gucci.

John Lewis cited research by ThreadUp which found that second hand items will account for 37 per cent of wardrobes by 2031 compared to 26 per cent 2021. It added that consumers are turning to the resale market for affordability and sustainability reasons.

"We're proud and excited to introduce Sign of the Times pre-loved clothing and accessories into our Peter Jones shop,” said Beth Pettet, head of category, fashion brands for John Lewis. “This is our first pre-loved fashion pop-up which will offer a stylish, premium edit of designer products that will encourage our customers to support a more sustainable and unique way to shop.

“A pre-loved item is the perfect present to give this Christmas."

The retailer has also recently launched a number of other sustainability initiatives, including offering rental of furniture, women’s fashion, and children’s clothing, as well as recycling of electrical items.
