Klarna launches on Apple Pay

Buy now, Pay Later (BNPL) company Klarna has announced that its services will be available to Apple Pay at checkout in-app and online.

Apple Pay users in the US and UK will be able to access Klarna’s flexible BNPL payment offering with no interest over longer periods.

Klarna said it intends to expand the service to users in other countries, with plans to launch in Canada in the coming months.

The business added that the integration means that payments will be more accessible as consumers can make purchases using Klarna directly on their iPhone or iPad.

The move comes as HM Treasury announces that BNPL be regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) from 2026.

The government department said that new legislation will allow the regulator to apply rules on affordability, meaning that BNPL companies like Klarna and rival Clearpay will have to ensure that users of its services can afford repayments.

"We’re excited to give users in the US and UK more choice in how they pay with the addition of Klarna’s flexible payment options right at checkout on Apple Pay,” said Jennifer Bailey, Apple’s vice president of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet. “With this rollout, users have the option to pay for purchases over time, and they get to enjoy the seamless and secure experience of Apple Pay that they already know and love.”

Last month, Klarna became an official reseller with the launch of “Apple from Klarna”, a storefront in the Klarna app and Klarna.com where US customers can purchase Apple products using flexible payment options.

Klarna also recently partnered with Adyen to launch its flexible payment methods on physical payment terminals across Europe, North America and Australia.

The service will be available on payment systems from Adyen, which claims it is the first global payment services provider to launch Klarna simultaneously on its payment terminals worldwide.
