Majestic expands on-demand delivery with Gophr partnership

Majestic has announced a new partnership with on-demand delivery company Gophr.

Customers placing larger orders at the wine retailer’s stores will be able to request same-day delivery via Gophr’s nationwide courier service.

Majestic already operates a fulfilment model whereby each of its 208 stores have their own dedicated van which delivers orders to households and hospitality businesses in local areas.

The move, which will support the retailer's existing network of 220 delivery vans, comes after a successful trial in London, Carlisle, Shrewsbury, and Yeovil.

Customers ordering online via majestic.co.uk will continue have access to the company's same-day click and collect or next-day delivery options.

“We know that our customers value the convenience and flexibility of getting expert advice from our store colleagues and paying for their orders in person, before having their wines delivered to their doorsteps at a later date," said Majestic chief executive John Colley. "This exciting new partnership with Gophr gives our customers the added option of having their large in-store purchases delivered to their homes within a matter of hours."

He went on to say that the courier will also provider fleet cover to support the company's retail and B2B operations fulfil increased demand during the summer.

Gophr will help Majestic service increased order volumes during peak periods and cover any driver absences through sickness or annual leave.

The business' on-trade sales division, Majestic Commercial, currently supplies more than 3,000 gastropubs, bars, restaurants, hotels and other hospitality venues across Britain.

Over the past four years, Majestic has opened 16 new stores, with plans to open an average of one new store every month over the coming years, while it is also growing its Majestic Commercial team "at pace".

Majestic aims to become one of the UK’s biggest suppliers to the on-trade and hospitality sectors within the next five years.

In April, the specialist wine seller bought wine bar chain Vagabond Wines out of administration.

The move, which comes after Vagabond went into administration last month, has saved nine of the company’s wine bars from closure, as well as 171 jobs.
