Primark poaches new CFO from Ikea

Primark has announced the appointment of Lucy Slinger as its chief financial officer.

Slinger joins the clothing and homeware retailer from Ingka Group, where she served for over five years as deputy chief financial officer.

Prior to joining the world’s largest Ikea franchisee, she spent more than two decades at Shell in a range of senior finance leadership roles, including financial reporting, corporate finance and as chief financial officer of the company’s global aviation business.

In her new role, Primark said Slinger will play a “critical role” in enabling the firm’s growth strategy as it looks to expand internationally following its split from its parent company Associated British Foods in April.

Primark added that Slinger brings deep expertise in finance transformation, operational and financial performance management, and strategic capital allocation across complex global businesses and supply chains, alongside a strong track record in financial discipline and governance.

“I’m delighted to welcome Lucy to Primark at such an important moment for the business,” said Eoin Tonge, chief executive of Primark. “She brings deep financial expertise from large global organisations, alongside an impressive track record in disciplined investment and operational performance.”

He continued: “As we accelerate our growth strategy and prepare for a standalone future, her leadership will be invaluable. I look forward to working closely with her as we shape the next phase of Primark’s growth.”
