Tesco has added electric vehicle charging network Be.EV to its Clubcard loyalty scheme, allowing drivers to earn loyalty points when charging their electric vehicles at more than 680 locations across the UK.

The supermarket said said Clubcard members who link their Tesco Clubcard to the Be.EV app will receive one Clubcard point for every £1 spent on charging at any Be.EV charger nationwide.

Founded in Greater Manchester in 2019, Be.EV now operates more than 2,500 charging bays across over 680 sites, making it one of the UK's 10 largest rapid and ultra-rapid charging networks.

The partnership also extends to Tesco Express stores where Be.EV rapid chargers are installed, enabling customers to charge their vehicles while shopping.

Points can be converted into Clubcard vouchers, which may either be spent on groceries at the supermarket or redeemed with reward partners. In order to collect the points, users can link their Clubcard inside the Be.EV app.

Loyalty cards have been a key focus for large UK grocers in recent years, with supermarkets including Morrisons and Marks and Spencer revamping their schemes in order to drive sales. Tesco was the first major UK supermarket to launch a modern loyalty card-based rewards programme, and it remains one of the most popular in the country with more than 24 million UK households including a Clubcard holder, according to the supermarket.

However, these schemes have recently been under fire after prime minister Andy Burnham launched a campaign against “phoney bargains”, including false savings from loyalty card programmes.
