The Fresh Market digitalises inventory management with AI-powered technology

The Fresh Market will digitalise signage and inventory management across its US stores to boost the customer experience.

Through a partnership with IoT and data firm Vusion Group, the American chain of supermarkets will integrate a suite of tools across its 166 locations, including digital shelf labels and artificial intelligence-based data and analytics.

The retailer said the implementation of these technologies aims to improve merchandising, inventory management, product quality and efficiency whilst minimising waste.

The move will see multi-coloured electronic shelf label technology introduced, allowing for remote price adjustments. The electronic labels will also include flashing LEDs that inform employees about stock numbers and current orders.

The suite includes AI-powered technology to detect all out-of-stocks in real- time to help teams prioritise shelf replenishment and address issues related to product display; availability of fresh food; and general waste management.

An analysis function will also help teams measure success and ROI to support the merchandising side of the business and improve the timing of out-of-stocks for more sustainable waste handling.

“We’re thrilled to team up with VusionGroup and introduce their technology to The Fresh Market. With this integration, we're transforming our stores into fast and efficient spaces.” said Brian Johnson, chief operating officer at the retailer.  “This partnership not only shows our dedication to elevating the shopping experience for our guests but also reflects our commitment to supporting our incredible team members.”
