Ann Summers to trial body-worn cameras

British lingerie brand Ann Summers has revealed plans to trial body-warn cameras across several locations.

The company said that the move comes amidst an increase in retail crime across the UK retail industry.

"It's no secret that over the past few years the rising incidents of antisocial behaviour and theft in stores has become increasingly challenging for Retail teams," wrote the retailer on LinkedIn."The personal safety and wellbeing of our colleagues is absolutely essential, so creating safe spaces for both them and our customers is a priority."

The retailer is partnering with Reveal Media to trial the body-warn cameras in stores.

The tech provider, founded over 20 years ago, has customers in over 40 countries who are served across five global offices.

It said that the move is designed to "reinforce a culture of respect" and "significantly reduce" issues faced in store.

Ann Summers joins a growing list of British retailers who are turning to technology to address a shoplifting crisis in Britain.

Last month, it was reported that H&M would be trialling body cameras in one store in Edinburgh and two in London.

In May, Currys announced its largest ever investment in in-store security with the rollout of headsets at stores nationwide.

The move follows a successful trial of the VoCoVo developed technology in 20 stores.

In February, Tesco unveiled a new multimillion-pound security hub in Daventry, Northamptonshire, as part of a major investment to tackle the growing problem of retail crime across its UK stores.

The high-tech centre, which operates 24 hours a day throughout the year, analyses thousands of hours of CCTV footage to target shoplifters and protect staff from violence.

Retail should not be a high-risk occupation. As a company, we are focused on listening to our colleagues and customers to help them with the issues they are facing in-store and so far, the feedback on our body cameras has been excellent. They act as a great visual deterrent, help to de-escalate situations and overall, this project has significantly aided our goal to make the retail environment safer.
