Carrefour expands to Ethiopia through new partnership

Carrefour has announced a new franchise and supply partnership with Queens Supermarket PLC, a subsidiary of Midroc Investment Group.

Under the new deal, the entire network of Queens Supermarket outlets will be changed to Carrefour stores, with Carrefour also supplying products and expertise.

The France-headquartered grocery giant will support Midroc teams to rebrand the store network and help it open more stores as part of its expansion plan.

The first stores will be rebranded during the first half of the year.

The partnership is part of Carrefour’s aim to expand to 10 new countries via franchising.

“We are delighted to initiate this collaboration with a leading retail player in Ethiopia,” said Patrick Lasfargues, chief executive officer of Carrefour International Partnership. “Beyond the rapid transformation of the 13 existing stores, the Midroc and Carrefour International Partnership teams are already working hand-in-hand on the future growth of our activities in the country: by
2028, we project the opening of 17 additional stores.

“This launch in Ethiopia is another milestone in the execution of our international franchise expansion strategy, which already saw us pass the 3,000 franchised store mark in October 2025.”

Carrefour Group currently has over 15,000 stores in over 40 countries with around 300,000 employees.

Its franchisees operate over 3,000 stores in more than 30 countries.
