Chipotle promotes company veteran Adam Rymer to CFO

Chipotle Mexican Grill, the popular fast-casual restaurant chain, has announced the appointment of Adam Rymer as its new chief financial officer, effective 1 October 2024.

Rymer, a 15-year veteran of the company, will succeed Jack Hartung, who will transition to the role of president and chief strategy officer.

The move comes as part of a broader reshuffling of Chipotle's executive leadership team. Rymer, who previously served as vice president of finance, will report to Scott Boatwright, the company's interim chief executive officer.

In a statement, Rymer expressed enthusiasm for his new role: "There's tremendous growth opportunity ahead for Chipotle, and I look forward to delivering on our strategic priorities and driving value for our guests, our employees and our shareholders."

The company also announced that Jamie McConnell, who has been with Chipotle since 2018, will assume the role of chief accounting and administrative officer. McConnell, previously vice president and controller, will report directly to Rymer.

Chipotle's board of directors has implemented retention plans for its entire executive leadership team to ensure continuity during this transitional period. The company highlighted that, excluding one officer hired in 2023 and Hartung's two-and-a-half decades of service, its executive officers have an average tenure of approximately seven years with the organisation.

The leadership changes come at a time of continued growth for Chipotle. As of 30 June 2024, the company operates over 3,500 restaurants across the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Kuwait. Chipotle prides itself on being the only restaurant company of its size to own and operate all its restaurants in North America and Europe.

As Chipotle continues to expand its global footprint, the appointment of Rymer as chief financial officer signals the company's commitment to leveraging internal talent to drive future growth and maintain its position as a leader in the fast-casual dining sector.
