Dunelm taps Sainsbury’s for new CEO

Homewares retailer Dunelm Group has appointed current chief retailer and technology officer at Sainsbury’s Clodagh Moriarty as its new chief executive.

From 1 October this year, Moriarty will replace current chief executive Nick Wilkinson, who will leave after seven years in the role.

As a member of the Sainsbury’s operating board, Moriarty currently holds responsibility for all stores and operations, alongside Sainsbury’s digital offer and strategy, customer experience and end-to-end technology platforms.

Before joining Sainsbury’s, she worked at Bain & Company for nine years.

To ensure a smooth transition, Wilkinson will continue in his role, stepping down from the board at the end of September to leave the company at the end of October.

In February, Wilkinson had informed Dunelm’s board of directors of his intention to retire from the retailer and full-time executive life.

Alison Brittain, chair of Dunelm, highlighted Moriarty's experience as an industry leader and emphasised that she brings an “impressive range of skills and experience” to the role.

Commenting on the hire process, she added: “Clo was the standout candidate from a strong field, and we are delighted that we have been able to attract such a talented and high calibre executive.”
