L’Oréal to ‘invest $383m’ in Indian beauty tech hub

L’Oréal is reportedly planning to open a beauty tech hub in Hyderabad, India, as part of a $383 million investment.

According to a report by Reuters, the French cosmetics business is opening the hub as a global base for AI-driven beauty innovation, helping to accelerate the implementation of advanced AI beauty technology.

The news agency said that the move would help to create 2,000 tech jobs by 2030.

The company’s chief executive Nicolas Hieronimus announced its partnership with the state government of Telangana at the World Economic Forum in Davos this week.

L’Oréal currently operates across more than 150 countries with over 90,000 employees.

The 116-year-old business has 37 global brands organised across four divisions: consumer products, luxe, dermatological beauty, and professional products.

In October last year, the cosmetics giant agreed to acquire Kering Beauté, including the House of Creed, for €4 billion, with the groups setting out a slate of 50 year exclusive beauty and fragrance licences across Gucci, Bottega Veneta and Balenciaga.

Under the agreement, L’Oréal has taken over Creed and secure long-term rights to create, develop and distribute beauty products for Kering’s brands.

The Gucci licence will commence after the expiration of the current Coty agreement, which analysts believe is in 2028, while licences for Bottega Veneta and Balenciaga will start upon closing, expected in the first half of 2026.

L’Oréal will also pay royalties to Kering on its licensed brands.

Kering said the deal is part of a broader strategic shift.

Luca de Meo, chief executive of Kering said at the time: “This strategic alliance marks a decisive step for Kering."
