McDonald’s targets higher app numbers with Uber partnership extension

McDonald’s UK & Ireland has extended its Uber Direct partnership in a bid to increase the number of customers using its mobile app.

Uber Direct is a white label delivery platform that allows retailers to offer on-demand delivery from within their own website or app.

The technology enables McDonald's customers to track deliveries from their local restaurant to their door. It also provides 24/7 customer service.

The move comes as McDonald's celebrates its 50th UK anniversary this year.

The fast food giant currently has more than 1,450 restaurants across the UK and Ireland, serving nearly four million customers every day.

“McDonald’s is building a digital ecosystem that empowers us to create more personalised experiences and connect with our customers throughout their McDonald’s journey like never before," said Simon Duffy, delivery director, McDonald's UK & Ireland. "As part of this journey, we are excited to continue our partnership with Uber Direct, our trusted MyMcDonald’s app delivery partner.

"Together we can continue to delight our customers by allowing them to order their McDonald’s favourites straight to their door.”

In 2023, the company announced it was partnering with Google Cloud to roll out generative AI (GenAI) technology across its restaurants around the world.

As part of its Accelerating the Arches strategy, the fast-food giant aims to connect thousands of its restaurants worldwide with Google Cloud technology to improve operations and customer and employee experience in an initiative it set in motion this year.

The fast-food giant said the move would speed up automation from equipment manufacturers and enable restaurant general managers to quickly spot and enact solutions to reduce business disruptions, leading to benefits like “hotter, fresher food”.
