Morrisons has partnered with Instaleap, an e-commerce fulfilment software company owned by Instacart, to improve its online ordering and e-commerce experience.
Through the partnership, Morrisons will be able to fulfil orders through online platforms including Deliveroo, Just Eat, and Uber Eats.
On the staff side of operations, the firm said Instaleap’s software offerings will help Morrisons employees perform fulfilment tasks more efficiently via Instaleap’s in-store app.
Charlotte Exell, group online director at Morrisons, said: “We’re constantly looking for ways to make online grocery shopping easier and more convenient. More of our customers are choosing to shop from us through one of our immediacy partners and they expect an efficient, dependable service every time. Working with Instaleap powers our online operations behind the scenes, helping us deliver fresh groceries directly to our customers’ doors quickly and reliably.”
Instaleap, which was acquired by Instacart in April, supports nearly 80 retailers across almost 30 countries.
In the past year, Morrisons has invested in a number of technological solutions intended to improve its customer and staff experience. In July, the supermarket chain announced it will trial AI-powered smart trolleys at its Preston store.
The trolleys, Instacart’s Caper products, automatically scan items as customers place them in the trolley and display a running total for customer spending on a touchscreen display.
In August, Morrisons announced a new agreement with Everseen, which will see it deploy the AI firm’s computer vision offering through in-store cameras to automatically identify theft at self-checkouts.
Outside of technological investments, Morrisons is reportedly looking for additional avenues for expansion. In May, the Telegraph reported the supermarket chain was discussing plans to supply products such as eggs, pies, and meat to rival British supermarkets via its manufacturing arm Myton.
