PureGym has announced plans to rapidly expand its estate, off the back of strong earnings and construction for the year to date.
In its Q2 earnings report, the gym chain reported a six per cent year-on-year increase in revenue to £199 million.
Puregym said it had opened 17 new gyms in the year to date and has “many more in the pipeline” for the rest of the year. Specifically, the chain is targeting 60 new sites for the full year across the UK, US, and Switzerland.
The gym chain currently runs 728 sites across the UK, US, Denmark, and Switzerland, with 467 sites in the UK alone. PureGym memberships are alsorising , with 66,000 new customers joining PureGyme in the year to June 30, bringing its total membership number to over 2.44 million.
In addition to new sites, PureGym said it is committed to a “targeted programme of refurbishment and maintenance” across its UK and US sites. Throughout the second quarter, it reported £14.3 million in total maintenance and refurbishment spending.
“Our structurally low-cost, technology-enabled operating model allows us to maintain strong margins and returns, offer outstanding affordable fitness to members and continue to invest in our estate and expand,” said Alex Wood, chief executive at PureGym, per reporting by CityAM.
“Gym membership penetration continues to rise across our markets and the value segment is taking an increasing share of that growth,” he added.
