Tesco extends partnership with Gorillas to Manchester

Tesco has extended its partnership with rapid delivery firm Gorillas to Manchester.

The move, originally reported by The Grocer, comes after Gorillas raised just under $1 billion in its latest funding round in October 2021.

Customers near the Big Four supermarket’s Stretford Extra store will be able to receive goods within minutes according to the publication’s sources.

Gorillas, founded in May 2020, operates in 55 cities, and employs more than 11,000 people.

The two companies first launched a pilot together in October 2021, which saw Gorillas set up micro-fulfilment sites at five large Tesco stores.

The news comes as more supermarkets are looking to implement rapid delivery options for customers.

This month, Waitrose has announced it will trial Deliveroo’s rapid delivery service in the capital, extending its current partnership with the London-headquartered company.

“Through our partnership with Gorillas, we can be even more convenient to our customers, helping them with last-minute Tesco products delivered in minutes,” said Tesco group innovation director Tom Hebbert. “Customers have responded really well to the first two sites in Thornton Heath and Lewisham and we look forward to bringing this service to our customers in Manchester.”
