Tesco is to deploy new payments and commercial fuelling technology across its network of more than 700 petrol stations as part of a partnership with mobility technology provider Vontier.

The retailer will integrate technology from Vontier subsidiaries Gilbarco Veeder-Root and Invenco to create a new forecourt platform designed to improve operational efficiency, enhance the customer experience and support future innovation.

The rollout will combine Invenco's outdoor payment applications with Gilbarco Veeder-Root's fuelling and forecourt management systems, providing Tesco with greater visibility into forecourt operations while streamlining payments at the pump.

Vontier said the technology will connect Tesco's point-of-sale (POS) systems with its forecourt infrastructure, providing real-time operational data across the forecourt. It added that its connected outdoor payment terminals will enable customers to make secure, compliant payments either at the pump or via the kiosk.

The modular hardware and software architecture is designed to give Tesco a scalable platform that can evolve alongside future retail and payments requirements.

Vontier said the integrated platform is designed to help power a more connected forecourt environment by bringing together payments, fuelling operations and management software.

Earlier this month, Tesco announced it had added electric vehicle charging network Be.EV to its Clubcard loyalty scheme, allowing drivers to earn loyalty points when charging their electric vehicles at more than 680 locations across the UK.

Tesco said Clubcard members who link their Tesco Clubcard to the Be.EV app will receive one Clubcard point for every £1 spent on charging at any Be.EV charger nationwide.

Founded in Greater Manchester in 2019, Be.EV now operates more than 2,500 charging bays across over 680 sites, making it one of the UK's 10 largest rapid and ultra-rapid charging networks.
