The Works appoints two board members

Discount retailer The Works has appointed John Goold and Mark Kirkland as non-independent non-executive directors with immediate effect.

Goold is chief executive officer of Kelso Group Holdings, an investment company holding a stake of around five per cent in The Works. Kirkland also works at the firm, where he is currently chief financial officer.

Both Goold and Kirkland will become members of the board but will not join any committees as part of their roles. The Works said they will focus on matters relating to shareholder value.

Goold has a career spanning 25 years raising growth capital and advising small and mid-cap companies. He held the role of chief executive of Zeus from 2013 to 2012 and is currently a non-executive director of Oncimmune Holdings plc and Boohoo Group plc.

Kirkland has held several senior roles in public and private companies and started his career in corporate finance with UBS. He has also served as chief executive of Denlin Property and is currently non-executive director at Strix Group and AEW UK REIT plc.

"I am pleased to welcome John and Mark to the Board following Kelso's investment in The Works last year,” said Carolyn Bradley, chair of The Works. “They bring extensive corporate and operational experience at Board level and will be an asset to The Works as we continue to deliver our 'Better, not just Bigger' strategy.

“We are grateful for their ongoing support and look forward to working together to drive shareholder value."
