Waitrose to trial Deliveroo rapid delivery

Waitrose has announced it will trial Deliveroo’s rapid delivery service in the capital, extending its current partnership with the London-headquartered company.

Deliveroo Hop – which the delivery business says brings groceries to customers’ homes in “as little as 10 minutes” – was launched in September last year.

The first ‘Hop’ delivery-only store, in partnership with Waitrose, will open in Bermondsey later in February.

The new location will give Waitrose customers access to on-demand delivery between 8am and midnight daily.

Consumers can order 1,000 lines directly from the Deliveroo app.

The move builds on Waitrose’s current relationship with Deliveroo, which sees the company deliver food from 150 Waitrose shops across the UK in about 20 minutes.

Waitrose has 331 shops in England, Scotland, Wales and the Channel Islands, including 59 convenience branches, and another 27 shops at Welcome Break locations.

“It’s important that we continue to evolve along with shopping behaviour to give our customers more options for how and when they want to shop with us,” said James Bailey, executive director, Waitrose. “Deliveroo has given us more flexibility in meeting customers' needs and expanding our successful partnership to trial 'Hop' gives us an exciting opportunity to introduce more new customers to the excellent food and drink we offer."

Carlo Mocci, chief business officer UK&I, Deliveroo said: “We are delighted to announce that Waitrose will trial Deliveroo Hop, our new rapid grocery service.. Deliveroo Hop complements our existing on-demand grocery service and will build on our successful partnership with Waitrose, improving the consumer experience and bringing a wide range of groceries and household products to consumers’ doors in as little as 10 minutes.”
