Walmart launches new BNPL service at self-checkout kiosks

US retail giant Walmart has launched Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) at its self-checkout kiosks.

Customers across 4,500 stores in the US will now be able to pay for Walmart items bought in store with instalments.

They will also be able to pay over time on walmart.com, the Walmart app, and at Walmart Vision and Auto Centres.

“Recent Affirm research revealed that more than half of Americans - 54 per cent - are looking for retailers to offer a Buy Now, Pay Later option at checkout," said Pat Suh, senior vice president of revenue at Affirm, which is providing the payment service. "Moreover, we’ve found that 76 per cent of consumers would either delay or not make a purchase without Affirm.

“Expanding our partnership with Walmart and bringing Affirm’s transparent monthly pay-over-time options to their self-checkout kiosks in the U.S. will help even more consumers increase their purchasing power during the holiday shopping season and beyond.”

Retail should not be a high-risk occupation. As a company, we are focused on listening to our colleagues and customers to help them with the issues they are facing in-store and so far, the feedback on our body cameras has been excellent. They act as a great visual deterrent, help to de-escalate situations and overall, this project has significantly aided our goal to make the retail environment safer.
