Aldi announces festive sales of £1.6bn

Aldi has announced that 2024 was its best Christmas ever, after sales reached £1.6 billion in the four weeks leading up to Christmas Eve.

The supermarket said that total sales increased by 3.4 per cent, while sales of its seasonal Christmas products rose by 10 per cent year-on-year.

Over the period, sales of its premium range jumped by 12 per cent compared with the same period of 2023.

Aldi said it sold a record 350,000 fresh turkeys, over 400 tonnes of beef and around three million brussels sprouts.

Customers also purchased around 50 million mince pies and almost 25 million British pigs in blankets over the festive period.

The company added that some customers started shopping for the festive season earlier this year by buying Christmas cakes and puddings in September.

Monday 23rd December was Aldi’s busiest ever trading day, serving nearly three million customers.

“Our offering of outstanding quality British products at unbeatable prices was a winning combination yet again this Christmas as customers wanted to celebrate in style after an uncertain year, but with more challenges ahead, they wanted to do it without breaking the bank,” said Giles Hurley, Aldi UK’s chief executive. “We couldn’t have done any of this without the unwavering dedication of all our amazing colleagues and I want to thank each and every member of Team Aldi for serving our customers so well this Christmas.”

Last week, Lidl announced that sales grew by a record seven percent over the festive season and its turnover exceeded £1 billion in the four weeks to 24 December for the first time in its 30 years in Britain.
