Aldi to open 10 new stores this summer

Aldi will open over 10 new stores over the next few months as part of wider expansion plans across the UK.

The move comes after the discount supermarket announced earlier this year that it would invest £550 million in expanding and improving its store and distribution network.

The company currently has around 1000 stores in the UK, with long term plans to increase the number to 1500.

The retailer will open shops in Waltham Cross in Hertfordshire and Olney Park in Milton Keynes next month.

Aldi added that Aberdare in Wales, Broughty Ferry in Dundee and Leytonstone in London will also see the opening of new stores in the coming months.

The retailer said it will meet its target of opening around 35 new stores this year, each of which create an average of 40 jobs.

“At Aldi, we want to ensure that high quality yet affordable food is available to everyone which is why we are continuing to expand across the UK,” said Jonathan Neale, real estate managing director at Aldi UK. “We have already opened several new stores this year, from Skelmersdale in Lancashire and Newport in Wales to Castle Gresley in Derbyshire and High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, and now we’re excited to bring Aldi to even more communities over the coming months.”
