Aldi to recruit 500 apprentices this year

Aldi will recruit over 500 apprentices across the UK this year as part of its expansion plans.

The supermarket said that the scheme offers opportunities across stores, buying, logistics and HGV driver roles.

Successful applicants will be able to gain qualifications recognised by the industry whilst earning £8.44 per hour in the first year, rising to £11.83 in the third year including paid breaks.

Aldi said apprentices will be eligible for a number of benefits including shopping discounts and a bike to work scheme.

“By joining our apprenticeship scheme, individuals will become experts in their role and receive in-depth skills training at one of the fastest-growing retailers in the country,” said Lisa Murphy, learning and development director at Aldi UK “The apprentices of today are the leaders of tomorrow, so we’re always on the hunt for more amazing individuals from all backgrounds to join our team.”

Last year, Aldi announced long-term expansion plans and its intention to open around 500 new stores in the UK to meet growing demand. The supermarket chain created a real estate team to facilitate the new store openings and look for sites in London and the South East.

The company said it created around 6,000 new roles across the UK last year thanks to its expansion.
