Asda rolls out fuel savings to rewards app

Asda has launched a promotion, running until the end of July, that allows shoppers to earn discounts on their fuel bills through buying groceries.

Customers who purchase at least £40 worth of groceries in a single in-store transaction will receive a five pence per litre fuel coupon, redeemable in the Asda Rewards app.

The supermarket said that customers filling a 60-litre car could save up to £3 through the “mission,” Asda’s term for in-app challenges that reward customers for hitting spending targets or buying a set number of products from a certain department.

The promotion will apply to purchases made until 31 July, with coupons redeemable until 7 August at 321 stores and Asda Express sites that sell Asda-branded fuel.

Rachel Eyre, chief customer officer at Asda, said: “We’re making Asda Rewards even more rewarding! Asda is more than just a supermarket and we're always looking for new ways to help families save on top of our low prices.

“Through our new Grocery and Fuel Bonus, customers can now unlock savings on fuel alongside their weekly shop, another step in our plans to keep growing Asda Rewards and give our customers even more value every time they shop with us.”

Asda said it plans to apply fuel rewards to more stores in the near future and extend the mission beyond August.

In its 2025 earnings statement Asda announced £989 million in losses, with executive chairman Allan Leighton drawing a direct line between 2025 profits and plans to become five to ten per cent cheaper than its rivals.

The supermarket maintains it is in a strong financial position, with total liquidity of £2.1 billion and £1.3 billion in cash on hand. It is pushing ahead with plans to lower prices and expand its in-store offerings, as well as raise its base hourly rate to £13.10 from this month.

It is also looking to cut up to 1,000 jobs through the automation of its warehouse operations.
