Asda has announced it will move its online grocery business onto its own “state-of-the-art” platform.
The supermarket’s existing digital grocery operations are located on previous owner Walmart’s managed systems.
The supermarket hopes the new platform will help it on its journey of independence as it establishes its digital future.
Digital business transformation company Publicis Sapient will assist Asda in moving off of Walmart systems and developing a new operational model which the retailer says will create “exponential value in terms of customer experience”.
“We look forward to a successful partnership and to the delivery of a platform that will enable a seamless transition for our customers, moving from a legacy system run by Walmart to an entirely independent Asda-owned platform,” said Carl Dawson, vice president - chief digital and technology officer at Asda.
Asda’s aim is to implement a new tech solution by 2024, with the retailer already having built and rolled out a new email marketing tool.
Asda recently announced plans to cut around 300 jobs, explaining the cuts were necessary as the retail sector “continues to evolve at pace”.
