Ex-Tesco exec starts role as Amazon physical store boss

Former Tesco executive Tony Hoggett is set to start his new role has as senior vice president of physical stores at Amazon.

Hoggett was previously Tesco’s chief strategy and innovation officer.

The executive joined the Big Four supermarket in 1990 and served in a variety of roles before becoming the company’s chief operating officer in 2018.

Hoggett will report to Dave Clark, chief executive of Amazon’s worldwide consumer business, and will be based in Seattle.

The news comes as the retail giant moves further into the brick-and-mortar space.

In December 2021, Amazon launched three new London stores which use its cashierless “Just Walk Out” technology.

The new Amazon Fresh stores, in Chingford, Euston, and Wandsworth, brought the retail giant’s total portfolio of UK grocery stores to 15.
