Gucci Milan site 'inspected by EU antitrust regulators'

A Gucci site in Milan is reportedly being inspected as part of an EU anti-trust inquiry.

Kering, the French owner of the luxury brand, confirmed to Reuters that EU antitrust regulators had set about inspecting one of its Milan-based facilities in an investigation spanning several countries.

Sources told the news agency that Italian tax police and European Commission agents were inspecting the Gucci Milan site in relation to its production of items including handbags and other leather goods.

While not naming all of the companies or countries in question, the EU commission, which acts as the EU’s competition enforcer, also told Reuters that it had raided some companies in the fashion sector due to concerns they may have violated the bloc's rules against cartels and restrictive business practices.

The EU commission has since issued a statement clarifying that the inspections are unrelated to those carried out in the fashion industry last year and also bear no relation to a 2021 raid in Germany on a company which produces and distributes clothing.
