Ikea announces global payments partnership with Adyen

Ikea has signed a global deal with Adyen to boost the payments and loyalty experience for its in-store and online customers.

The Swedish furniture retailer will use the payment company’s financial technology platform to gather customer transaction data from both physical and digital channels, with the aim of helping it better understand shopping behaviours across channels.

The platform provides a “closed-loop” payment system which facilitates worldwide processing, acquiring, local payment methods, and like-for-like settlement capabilities for Ikea franchisees.

The system also aims to limit the number of contracts and integrations required for global IT operations which can enable easier management of customer data and lower the risk of operational disturbances.

"We are proud to partner with the Ikea business to help scale their efforts to understand their customers and the behaviours that lead to long-term relationships with the iconic brand," said Tobias Lindh, managing director, Adyen Nordics & Baltics.

Earlier this week, Ikea announced that it is testing an online secondhand marketplace to rival other peer-to-peer services such as eBay.

In a LinkedIn post, the company’s chief executive Jesper Brodin said that Ikea Preowned would enable people to purchase Ikea products at an “even lower price” and contribute to the furniture retailer’s sustainability efforts.
