JD Sports targets €520m takeover of French sports store Courir

JD Sports has announced plans to acquire French sporting goods store Courir in a deal worth around €520 million.

Courir would be paid €325 million in cash after net debt deductions of €195 million, which would be payable by JD at completion if a deal is struck.

Courir’s 52-week financial period ended 31 December 2022 recorded consolidated revenues of around €609 million.

The Paris headquartered company counts a total of 313 stores across six European countries, with the majority - 187 dedicated stores and 70 affiliated outlets - located in France.

JD's chief executive Régis Schultz expressed pleasure at the potential acquisition, calling Courir a business held in high regard within Europe’s sportswear community.

“We look forward to concluding the contemplated transaction, welcoming the Courir team to the Group and then working with management to fulfil Courir's global potential,” he said.

The JD boss added that investing in “quality complementary concepts” was a key priority for furthering the continued global growth of the brand, which the company has previously expressed.

JD Sports recently sold a number of its fashion brands to Frasers Group in a deal worth nearly £50 million.

At the time, JD Sports said: “The divestment of these businesses will allow the group to focus more fully on the opportunities across the rest of the group, in particular the international and digital expansion of the group’s core premium sports fashion fascias."
