Lidl to become 'first-ever' supermarket to launch on TikTok Shop

Lidl GB has said it will become the first ever supermarket to sell products directly through TikTok Shop.

The budget grocer is selling its new range of high protein products on the platform as part of a limited ‘pop-up venture’ on 20 February, with 3,000 exclusive Lidl GB bundles worth more than £30 available to buy for £5.

Proceeds from the sale will go to children’s charity NSPCC.

Lidl is also giving away Lidl Plus coupons as part of the bundle, offering shoppers a 25 per cent discount on its chilled high protein range in-store.

“Our high protein range is a firm  fan favourite with more than 150 high-protein products sold in our stores every minute and our customers across the country taking to social media to share their hauls each week," said Joanna Gomer, marketing director, Lidl GB. “With the number of TikTok shoppers growing rapidly, we’re proud to be the first supermarket meeting our customers directly on the platform with our unique offering, creating these exclusive bundles to showcase our new exciting products.”

Lidl recently announced plans to introduce a new digital micro-donation system across its UK stores in February.

The company’s new system, called Pennies, enables shoppers to donate up to 30p per transaction at the card readers.

The budget supermarket said that micro-donations could inject £1 billion into the UK charity sector if every UK cardholder contributed 35p a week.

The move follows a successful regional trial, with the technology being rolled out at the end of January.
