M&S fashion expands Amazon partnership to Netherlands

Dutch consumers will now be able to buy select clothing from Marks & Spencer (M&S) collections through Amazon after the brand extended its partnership with the online retail giant.

M&S first partnered with Amazon in February, launching across France, Germany, Spain, and Italy, countries where the company said its brand and product “resonate with consumers”.

M&S launched its fashion brand in the Netherlands in 2022 through market channels including Zalando. In the last six months, it said, it has seen “exponential” growth and demand in the market, with sales rising 46 per cent. This makes the country now its second-best performer for marketplace sales.

The Dutch Amazon storefront will offer over 1,000 products across menswear, womenswear and kidswear.

M&S’s ambition for its international business is to build it into a global omnichannel operation, utilising the expertise and infrastructure of strategic partners to create capital-light delivery models. Amazon’s local fulfilment centre network is a good fit for this model, it said.

Its international sales through online marketplaces Amazon, Zalando, and About You, have grown by triple digits in the last year, it added.

Mark Lemming, managing director of international at M&S, commented: “Our partnership with Amazon continues to grow with momentum. As we continue to accelerate our new channel growth, we’re delighted to respond to demand from customers in the Netherlands and expand our product offer in the market, bringing the exceptional quality and value of M&S fashion to more people.”

In its home market of the UK, M&S is in the process of a major overhaul of operations as it works to recover from a devastating cyberattack last year, which chair Archie Norman described as a “three months immersion into another world”.
