Monoprix to open stores in Egypt

French supermarket chain Monoprix has announced plans to open its first stores in Egypt next year.

The retailer said that Egypt has high potential for growth which is fuelled by increasing urbanisation and strong demand for innovation.

The Monoprix stores in Egypt will offer fresh food products and local specialties, as well as a full range of non-food products, including fashion and beauty.
Monoprix currently has around 140 stores across 16 countries.

The company said it aims to continue its expansion around the world by diversifying into local markets through the opening of around 20 stores per year, starting in 2025.

The retailer has partnered with TMT for Food and Beverages to help it adapt to the local market, with the company also providing operational management.

"We are happy to allow Egyptians to discover our brand,” said Alfred Hawawini, chief executive of Monoprix. “Through this partnership, we wanted to bring our vision of local retail, by proposing an offer that meets both the expectations of Egyptian city dwellers and the quality standards that have made our reputation."
