Ocado partners with South Korean conglomerate Lotte

Ocado has partnered with Lotte Shopping to develop a network of customer fulfilment centres for the South Korean market.

Lotte Shopping has over 1,000 retail outlets in the country and is a part of Lotte Group, a large business conglomerate with interests in retail, food, hotels and chemicals.

The customer fulfilment centres will use the Ocado Smart Platform, while shops will use Ocado’s in-store fulfilment solution.

The partnership will produce six customer fulfilment centres by 2028 which will cover multiple geographies. The first will go live in 2025. The fulfilment centres will use multi-storey technology, which involves using grids on multiple levels – allowing for more efficient use of space in densely built areas.

Commenting on the news Tim Steiner, chief executive of Ocado Group, said: "This partnership brings the Ocado Smart Platform, the most advanced technology for serving online grocery, to one of the most mature ecommerce markets in the world.”

He added: ”I'm delighted to welcome Lotte to the innovative group of retailers developing their online operations with Ocado. With this new partnership, our unique, proprietary technology will now power the online businesses of twelve major retailers across ten countries worldwide."
