Rite Aid partners with Klarna to roll out ‘Pay in 4’ option in stores

American pharmacy chain Rite Aid has entered a partnership with AI powered global payments network Klarna to integrate its Pay in 4 payment option across its stores.

The payment technology allows customers with a Klarna account to split their purchases into four equal and interest-free payments.

Klarna’s payment services will be integrated within Rite Aid's in-store payment process across a wide range of products, including essentials, health and wellness items and over-the-counter drugs.

However, Klarna payment methods will not be available prescriptions or medical services.

To access the service, Rite Aid customers will need to create a Klarna digital card using the company's app, which will be used during the first payment at checkout. The first payment with Klarna’s Pay in 4 option amounts to 25 per cent of the total purchase price.

Three consecutive payments will be charged without interest as long as the customers pays on time.

The Klarna app has a reminder option that alerts users of payments to be made.

Rite Aid said in a statement that the move will enable Rite Aid’s customers to have greater flexibility in completing and managing their purchases across all stores.

Jeannie Walden, chief marketing officer at Ride Aid, emphasised how the technology aims to improve the in-shopping experience with modern and flexible services to make everyday shopping easier and more accessible.

“This collaboration with Klarna reinforces our dedication to customer-centric solutions that empower our customers to make purchases with confidence and ease, while maintaining access to the essential products they rely on,” continued Walden.
