schuh launches single shoe scheme to improve inclusivity

schuh has introduced single shoe purchases nationwide in a bid to facilitate greater inclusivity across its stores.

The initiative, available in-store, sees schuh customers get 50 per cent off single shoes taken from a brand-new pair.

The move comes after the shoe wear brand received positive feedback from customers who had previously purchased one shoe via its customer care team.

The initiative is now being rolled out across all of its stores.

schuh currently has over 120 locations in the UK, Ireland and online, selling over 80 brands as well as their own label.

To launch the new ‘single shoe’ initiative, schuh is partnering with model and amputee advocate, Georgia Stannard, who is aiming to improve inclusivity and representation in the fashion industry.

“When I heard schuh was announcing its single shoe initiative, I felt so proud to be working with a brand striving towards greater inclusivity and disability awareness," said Stannard. "Having more choice makes me feel supported and confident about shopping for my favourite shoes in-store.”

schuh has also previously committed to disability equality through a number of programmes, including diverse casting in campaigns, image descriptors and subtitles across social content, and ensuring 10 per cent of all e-commerce product imagery features disabled models or models with visible differences.

The company has also pledged to observe quiet hours in several stores and has resources available to showcase what to expect when shopping in-store.

Neil Partington, chief retail officer, said: “‘Creating an inclusive shopping experience is a key part of our business strategy. I am delighted to be able to roll out single-shoe purchases to all schuh stores. We have been doing it via our Customer Experience team for some time, but now, even more people will have access to our hottest brands and products through this inclusive product offering.”’
