The retailer anticipates that the new store openings will create over 570 jobs nationwide.
Throughout 2023, 70 existing stores will also be refitted, with a view to “modernise the estate”.
The company said it would introduce new shop fronts, fully recyclable signage, improved flooring and ceiling tiles made from bio-soluble mineral wool, clay and starch, energy efficient LED lighting, new floor layouts and upgraded fascia and internal signage.
The investment is part of Superdrug’s wider Online and Offline platform strategy to deliver on its omnichannel ambition to “rebuild itself as a multichannel player”.
Nigel Duxbury, property director at Superdrug said: “High Streets and retail parks are the beating heart of our communities and an essential part of our economy.”
He continued: “Our investment in bricks and mortar will help us continue to stretch, shape, and deliver for our customers in the future, as well as helping transform communities into vibrant places to live, work and shop.”
The news follows increased sales and footfall in Superdrug stores as recorded in its fourth quarter 2022 financials, helped along by a 16 per cent sales uptick throughout the festive period.
